Stop and smell the pomegranates

I'm not sure if I've ever sat down and had a pomegranate before I moved to NYC. This is the first time I've ever had access to cheap produce I guess. I currently live across the street from the best fruit/veggie biz in the world. The price is never the same but I love a good low stakes surprise. For example, the other day while walking home from the subway I bought a mango, a bag of mini cucumbers, a lime, a carrot, and 2 pomegranates for only $5. I also had never sat down and ate a mango before I moved here now that I think about it. The first time I ever cut a mango was a few weeks ago for some UWS kids I was babysitting and their mind couldn't comprehend the fact that I had never sliced a mango before. Anyways, no matter how many different methods I've tried to open and dissect a pomegranate, I've learned that there's no quick way to harvest the seeds. This reminds me that I brought my family a pomegranate from my veggie man in NYC and it's been sitting in my suitcase this entire time.
Update: the traveling pomegranate survived!

The new addition of this iconic winter fruit in my life has taught me a valuable lesson of moving slowly with intention. There's no shortcut for life and (no matter what the internet tells you) there's no shortcut for peeling a pomegranate.
